A meeting with Calabria’s sea
Grotticelle lies below the Capo Vaticano headland, in the municipality of Ricadi.
It is part of the Costa degli Dei, on the Tyrrhenian side of Vibo Valentia province.
Pale sand and rocky outcrops give the bay a different shape from Calabria’s long, straight seafronts.
A view from above helps you identify the inlets before heading down to the shore.
The seabed is part of the appeal of this stretch of Capo Vaticano.
For snorkelling or boat trips, ask local operators about current conditions and regulations.
Choose an access point that suits your needs, as facilities may differ along the shore.
Check parking, beach concessions and equipment for the day you plan to visit.
You can combine time on the beach with a scenic walk around the Capo Vaticano lighthouse area.
Clear-looking water is not a substitute for official bathing-water checks.
