How our rankings work

Each review averages only the criteria actually rated. “Not applicable / Don’t know” is never treated as zero. Facility quality and facility cleanliness are excluded for natural beaches.

Overall and criterion averages use valid ratings only. We display one decimal place, vote counts, the distribution of review averages rounded to the nearest star and the date of the latest change.

Rankings use (n × R + m × C) / (n + m). n is the number of valid ratings, R their average, m the weighting parameter and C the real average of comparable reviews. The reference is calculated separately for beaches and beach clubs, and for each criterion, within the selected period.

Geographic filters select which places are displayed while retaining the regional reference. At least 10 applicable ratings are required for the selected criterion; higher administrative minimums are respected. Without real ratings we do not calculate C or generate positions. Editorial selections are not rankings.

Sea cleanliness describes visual perception, not health certification. Advertisers cannot buy ratings or edit reviews.
